Corporate Sponsor: Ferrer Family Wines
Hats off to our newest scholarship sponsor: Ferrer Family Wines! Part of The Freixenet Group, Ferrer Family Wines represents artisanal, small-production wines of Spain crafted in-house by winemakers with deep roots in their respective regions. Honoring a commitment to winegrowing that dates back to 16th century Spain, the Ferrers were one of the first Spanish families to embrace the global marketplace, with ties to the first wine importers to the former Spanish colonies in the Americas.
For over 150 years, the Ferrer family has been making wine in their native Spain and bringing that knowledge on their worldwide adventures, including travelling through 1920s Europe in a bottle car. It all began when the youngest son of La Freixeneda, Pere Ferrer Bosch or El Freixenet, married Dolors Sala Vivé, the only daughter of the Sala family. The Salas had been making wine at their Casa Sala property since 1861, and Dolors’ keen interest in the process was easily complemented by Pere’s business savvy and community involvement. Over the generations, the Ferrer family continued to broaden its horizons by investing in Spain’s classic winemaking regions, including Penedes, Priorat, Montsant, Ribera del Duero and Rias Baixas.
From its operations at Segura Viudas, with its XI Century watch tower, vineyard bird blinds, ceramic fermenting tanks and advanced technology bottling facility, to its terraced vineyards of Garnacha and Cariñena grapes high in Priorat, Ferrer Family Wines, formerly The Heredad Collection, shows a respect for history and tradition, and a commitment to quality and innovation. With a foothold firmly planted in the rich soils of Spain, the Ferrer family’s vision lay well beyond their backyard. They have consistently focused on the global market and looked toward the future in spreading the word of their wines to the global consumer.
As a corporate sponsor for the Wine Bloggers’ Conference Scholarship, the Ferrer Family seeks to introduce bloggers to their newest wines Paramus Verdejo from D.O. Rueda and Segura Viudas Gran Cuvee Reserva D.O. Cava, as well as their Bodegas Solar Viejo VAZA, a modern take on a classic Rioja.
“It’s a privilege for Ferrer Family Wines to participate in the Wine Bloggers Conference this year as a scholarship sponsor,” said Josep Ferrer, Brand Manager at Freixenet USA and fourth generation Ferrer family member. “Bloggers shape the landscape of wine today and serve as an excellent barometer for current tastes and trends.”
Be sure to stop by the scholarship table for information on these wines, as well as an opportunity to purchase your very own souvenir Paramus glass (proceeds go to the WBC Scholarship Fund). The glass is great for tasting wines during the conference as well as the perfect keepsake to remind you of this year’s WBC! For more information on Ferrer Family Wines, visit their website, here.
